Dear Friends and Supporters,

I wanted to thank you for your interest in our organization and hope the following document will provide you with some useful information on our mission and accomplishments. The AIDG strives to provide practical solutions to problems of electricity production, clean water, sanitation and cooking fuel for the rural poor in developing countries. We incubate self-sufficient businesses that manufacture, install and repair these technologies locally and sell them at a price affordable within the local economy.

A year ago, in April 2005, the AIDG began its first projects in Guatemala with a 3-person team and a $3,000 budget. Looking back in April 2006, the strides we have made in just a year are impressive:

• We cleaned a groundwater pollution source at an orphanage.
• We run a fully equipped machine shop and have trained a team of ten Guatemalan workers to do outreach projects.
• We distributed hundreds of emergency stoves with food packets to families displaced by Hurricane Stan.
• We began work on a 40-home UN sponsored hydroelectric project.
• We produce windmills, biogas systems, water pumps, solar water heaters, water filtration systems, and hydro electric systems for communities in need in Guatemala.

And all of this has been accomplished in a single year on a budget under $50,000.

We are proud of our first incubated business, Xelateco. In addition to being a resource for communities of northern Guatemala, it provides educational internships for volunteers and students from around the world. We have begun a service learning tourism program, TecoTours, to extend these opportunities beyond students. These programs build on the educational mission started last summer by our AIDG.NET library system. We are beginning a project placement program to use our shops as a vehicle for testing major research university student designs in rural communities. Through these initiatives, the AIDG combines outreach, education and business development to foster sustainable development in both the developed and developing world.

In the next few years, we will open 2-3 more businesses worldwide. Starting in the Dominican Republic, we hope to expand both our educational and outreach programs to new regions in new countries. Please review the enclosed information about our organization and consider passing it on to people you feel might be interested.
