AIDG Team

While the AIDG has numerous volunteers who help with our projects there is a core team of dedicated supporters who comprise AIDG's primary management team. These people are:

Peter Haas, Founder, Executive Director

Peter Haas   Peter Haas received a BA from Yale University in philosophy and psychology in 1998. Since founding AIDG in 2005, Peter has become an active voice for poverty issues, speaking at the World Bank, Harvard, MIT and other forums on technology, entrepreneurship and SME finance. His work with AIDG has been featured in Fast Company, Popular Mechanics, NPR and Forbes. He has served as a judge for the EPA’s People, Prosperity and the Planet competition. He was a 2006 Echoing Green Fellow, a 2008 Waldzell Institute Architect of the Future, and a 2009 TED Global Fellow. Before founding AIDG he worked both in the information technology field and on an organic farm and horse ranch doing infrastructure improvement work. He tinkers in water systems, electrical systems, electronic systems, masonry, plumbing, biogas, irriga¬tion, welding, metal casting and sustainable building.


Cat Lainé, Deputy Director

Catherine Laine   Catherine Lainé was appointed Deputy Director of AIDG in 2008. A social entrepreneur, who transitioned into international development from academic pursuits in infectious disease epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health and Oxford University, Catherine is passionate about finding sustainable business solutions to the problems facing the world's poor. Prior to her work at AIDG, she ran a private media consultancy for non-profits and small businesses on how to leverage open source technology for more effective communications. She is an avid blogger and speaker on technology in the non-profit sector for the NTEN conferences. She received her B.A. from Swarthmore College in Biology and is fluent in French and proficient in Haitian Creole and Spanish.


Steve Crowe, Director of Technology

Steve Crowe   Steve Crowe graduated from Gannon University in Erie, PA with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Systems design in 2004. Prior to joining AIDG he ran a private consultancy on mid-scale photovoltaic systems and worked in facilities engineering for Rocket Systems Inc. He lives with his lovely wife, Waleska, in Xela a short commute from Xelateco.


Stephen Lee, Director of Operations

Steve Lee
  Stephen brings to AIDG over 15 years of experience in technology development, program management, and operational support. He has served in leadership positions in a diverse range of organizations that include Silicon Valley startups, Fortune 100 corporations, social enterprises, and international NGOs.  Prior to AIDG, Steve helped develop an international platform for technology product donations for TechSoup Global.  Stephen holds a M.A. in Sustainable International Development from Brandeis University, and a B.S. in Computer Science from Northwestern University.  His masters project was a study of collaborative and participatory relationships in the design, dissemination, and evaluation of appropriate technologies in rural communities.  Stephen has worked in Guatemala, Haiti, and Indonesia. 


Dorit Leavitt, Guatemala Program Manager

Dorit Leavitt   Dorit Leavitt received her B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Minnesota in 2002 and a Masters of Public Health from CUNY-Hunter College in 2008. With a career devoted to social justice, Dorit has spent many years working with various NGO's and community-based institutions. Much of her work has focused on adult education and training as a catalyst to create change. Dorit has applied her passion, skills and experience through various projects including: a health literacy campaign with the Mayor’s Office of New York City, and in Guatemala, the development of a woman's health education and microenterprise program.
