Trying to make a dollar out of 15 gourdes: Online Game

by Catherine Laine
November 6th, 2006

Agencies are catching on to the usefullness of Flash animation and games for getting folks to spend time learning about issues such as poverty and development. Check out this new game brought to you by Global Kids/UNICEF: Ayiti - Cost of life.

The game starts with a bit more blah blah blah then necessary, but is still pretty good.

Update: I love gamers. Here is an analysis of what strategies work in the game. I would recommend playing it a few times before you read this post. It makes it more fun when you get the reveal. Be sure to read the comments as well.

My pleasure. I’m always interested in alternative ways to educate people about issues such as this, especially how to get kids interested.

    P:Um hi everybody, my name’s Peter, and I’m a cost of life addict . . .

    E:Hi Peter

P:. . . so i know it’s rigged to prevent them all from reaching graduate level education, but dang it all if I don’t just keep trying! This is worse than when I discovered that secret programmers hack in Metroid when I was 11!
