MIT’s International Development Design Summit is back for year 2. Here are the events that are open to the public:
Keynote Speaker: Paul Polak, IDE

Paul Polak, founder of International Development Enterprises and author of Out of Poverty. He will be speaking about design for affordability and the design revolution needed to lift out of poverty the two billion people who live on less than a dollar a day.

Anil Gupta, Honeybee Network

Harish Hande of the Solar Electric Energy Company (SELCO) of India and Ruth Mufute of Africare will discuss key factors in project dissemination, looking at small-scale solar electric systems in India and oil presses in Tanzania as case examples.

Jock Brandis, inventor of the Full Belly Project peanut sheller, will be with us for a demonstration and discussion of the peanut sheller as well as new bio-fuel technologies that the Full Belly Project is developing.

TIE is hosting a dinner and panel featuring a cross-section of experts from industry, academia, and the social sector to discuss the breakthrough ideas being implemented worldwide to address the water and sanitation crisis. Speakers include Denise D. Knight of the Coca Cola Company’s Water Sustainability Initiative, Michael Delaney, Director of Oxfam America’s Humanitarian Response, Lotika Paintal, Founder of the startup nonprofit Water Centric, and Dr. Balakrishnan Rajagopal, Asoc. Prof., MIT.

IDDS Final Presentations
Wednesday, August 6

Final presentations and project displays of the IDDS design teams will be showed. Participants will present their prototypes and plans for implementing their projects. Please join us for a reception celebrating their work.
