Watch Episode 6 of PBS’ Design Squad online. AIDG’s own Executive Director, Pete Haas, makes a cameo appearance as a beta-prototyper and judge.
The goal of Design Squad series is to help kids develop a lifelong interest in math, science, and engineering by showing them the weird and wonderful things engineering can accomplish. The entire show is 13 episodes, over which time eight teenagers compete to design and build machines for real clients. In the final episode, the top two scorers battle for the Grand Prizeāa $10,000 college scholarship from the IntelĀ®Foundation to study science, engineering, math, or technology.
Episode 6 is a special one in the series in that it illustrates how engineering can have a wider global impact and be used to address important social issues. “The teams set their sights on designing the most durable, portable and low cost peanut butter making machines for a women’s collective in Haiti. Powered by human hands and inspiring to the human heart, DS shows that engineering really can change lives.”
