Guerrilla Green Spaces: Turfing over Trafalgar
by Catherine LaineJune 4th, 2007
This time-lapse video shows Trafalgar Square being turned into a village green for the very first time!
NELSON looks down proudly yesterday on England’s green and pleasant land — in TRAFALGAR SQUARE.
The famous square in Central London — home to Nelson’s Column — has been turfed over with 21,500sq ft of grass.
For two days, visitors will be able to lounge in deckchairs, enjoy a picnic or take part in a Tai Chi relaxation class.
The makeover is part of a “London Villages” drive to raise awareness of the green spaces in the capital.
James Bidwell, of the Visit London campaign, said: “This will help everyone discover Village London.”
After its stint in Trafalgar Square the turf will be moved on to Fulham in West London.
