by Catherine LaineJuly 12th, 2007
According to the UNDP, five gallons or 20 liters of water per day is the bare minimum that a person needs for basic survival.
Did you know?
- It takes 5.5 gallons to flush a pre-1970’s toilet. Modern toilets use 1.6 to 3.5 gallons.
- Your average American and European uses 150 and 50-80 gallons per day, respectively. An average person in a developing country uses 1.3 gallons.
- 1 in 5 of us, about 1.1 billion people, don’t have access to the clean water.
- Sanitation and clean water drastically raise a child’s chance of seeing their 5th birthday.
- If all the earth’s water fit in a gallon jug, the fresh water would be just over a tablespoon.
