XelaTeco Shop Guidelines for Volunteers and Project Placement Interns

Hours of operation

  1.  XelaTeco hours are between 8:00-5:30, Monday through Friday.  Work is done inside of these hours unless otherwise approved approved by the shop manager.
  2. Breaks are from 10:30-11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
  3. Use of tools and the XelaTeco workshop space, and collaboration with XelaTeco staff must be approved in advance of project work by AIDG staff.
  4. Please be professional, efficient, and focused on project related activities during when working with XelaTeco . It is after all, a workshop and for profit micro-enterprise.
  5. Please be polite—daily greetings and goodbye’s are important in the local culture.

Safety

  1. Interns and volunteers should never be alone in the shop.
  2. Shirts must be worn, closed-toed shoes required while in non-office areas.
  3. Proper safety gear must be worn when operating equipment:
    • Safety goggles when operating power tools,
    • Eye protection when welding,
    • Work gloves when handling sharp/rusty objects Work area must be kept tidy and everything must be put away at the end of the day.
  4. No smoking or drinking alcoholic beverages in the shop.
  5. No pets allowed in the shop.
