Overview:

A meeting for practitioners in cooking stoves/fuels in Haiti and other interested parties. We will start with a quick review of charcoal use and production in Haiti, and its impacts on land use and deforestation, in order to define the scope of the problem. Discussion will then dive into technical, agricultural, and financial solutions, the implementation challenges of each and how those challenges might be addressed.

The conference is intended to identify practice areas currently lacking sufficient resources to be successful, potential partnerships, and opportunities for greatest impact.

Details:

Initial focus areas:
  • Stoves (technology and products)
  • Fuels and Fuels processing (technology and products)
  • Dissemination strategies / Awareness build-up / Financing
  • Organizational Focus and Coverage Areas

Participants are asked to come with the following:
  • a list of what they need and what they offer
(funding, technology, products, distribution, training, carbon financing, etc)
  • a list of lessons learned to date
  • samples for display/demonstration

Lunch will be served.

* An informal second day will be spent in the field learning about bio-briquette manufacture, visiting a local home to see haitian cooking in action, and hopefully some demonstrations of improved cookstoves.
