Quetsol, the winner of AIDG’s 2009 Business Plan Competition GuateVerde, is a new enterprise that provides high efficiency, low cost solar technologies that aim to increase basic illumination, electricity generation, and water pumping needs in Guatemala. Based in Santiago Atitlán on Guatemala’s famous Lago Atitlán, Quetsol offers its customer base a wide range of affordable photovoltaic technology. Quetsol’s Director of Technology and Finance, Manuel Aguilar, holds a
Master’s Degree in astrophysics and a Bachelor’s Degree in astrophysics
and physics from Harvard University. His work experience includes
founding and managing a global-macro hedge fund, working as a
quantitative analyst for a private equity group, as well as significant
astrophysics research.
Director of Marketing and Sales Juan Rodriguez has a Business
Administration degree from the Universidad Francisco Marroquin in
Guatemala City with an emphasis in finance and marketing. For the past
four years, he had worked as a marketing manager for Proctor &
Gamble Interamericas and formally owned and managed his own advertising
agency.

Samples of Quetsol’s proposed product line. 1) Lighting kits: These consist of a solar photovoltaic panel connected to a battery and a charge regulator that supply electricity to a series of LEDs. There are different models that have a range of power from 1.5W up to 10W, and some that include a universal cell phone charger. 2) Lamps and flashlights: Portable lighting that is charged by a solar panel. Quetsol has a variety of products with different power levels, from 0.5W up to 2W, with integrated or separate solar panels.
