WelcomeA good New Year to you all and welcome to the first AIDG quarterly
newsletter. This bulletin will keep you posted on initiatives,
projects, events and educational programs run by the AIDG. The AIDG is
an early stage non-governmental organization with a goal of providing
low cost infrastructure improvements to rural areas of developing
countries through the equipping and training of workshops for the
production of intermediate technology solutions.
Projects
2005 looks to be a good year for the AIDG in its projects. We have just
begun a site survey to erect a wind turbine and educational exhibit on
an organic farm outside of Boston. And in February we will be working
with NGOs in Guatemala to site and install 3 windmill projects and 2
biodigester projects on farms in between Huehuetenango and
Quetzaltenango. During this trip we will also attempt to establish a
location for the first AIDG sponsored intermediate technology workshop.
We aim to have the first workshop running and producing windmills,
biodigesters and stoves, by the fall.
501 (c) (3)We have just received 501 (c) (3) status from the IRS and are beginning
our first major round of fundraising to support this first workshop.
The status is retroactive to our founding so those who gave donations
during 2004 will receive receipts and will be able to claim them on
their 2004 return. If you haven't donated please consider visiting our
donations page: http://www.aidg.org/donations/
Information Session / FundraiserWe will be holding our first information session and fundraiser this Friday:
Friday 1/14/05
8 pm at the Cambridge Co-op
64 Wendell St, Cambridge, MA.
We
will have a short information session, a question and answer period,
and on display various components from one of the axial flux turbines
headed to Guatemala. Informational material on our Bioigesters and
material on technologies planned for future projects will also be
available. Afterwards there will be drinks, mingling, some dancing and
knowing the folks at the Co-op a good time for all.
Yoga Fundraiser
We
will have two Yoga fundraisers in Boston and Cape Ann in late January
and early February, with yoga instructor Reggie Edmonds. Reggie is a
talented yoga instructor and the sessions promise to be interesting for
people of all skill levels. These fundraisers have limited space so
please email info@aidg.org if you are interested.
Volunteer OpportunitiesWe
also have limited opportunities in January and early February for
people to help in the construction of turbines headed to Guatemala and
other demonstration projects. Additionally we have some Spanish
language instructional material we could use help from a native
language speaker in finishing. If you are interested in volunteering
some time please email volunteer@aidg.org
AIDG Store
A
number of Boston Based artists have been exceptionally kind in donating
artwork for sale as postcards and calendars. If you need some cool
cards and want to support a good cause please visit http://www.aidg.org/store . Keep an eye out for the work on dinosaurs that will be appearing there shortly.
Thanks for your Support,
The AIDG Team
