Welcome
Howdy and welcome to the second AIDG quarterly newsletter. This bulletin will
keep you posted on initiatives, projects, events and educational
programs run by the AIDG. The AIDG is an early stage non-governmental
organization with a goal of providing low cost infrastructure
improvements to rural areas of developing countries through the
equipping and training of workshops for the production of intermediate
technology solutions.
Projects

The AIDG team just got back from doing demonstration projects in Guatemala with the rural development group CEDEPEM and the orphanage Casa Guatemala. We are currently in planning for our summer projects in Guatemala. This summer AIDG
staff will be in Quetzaltenango equipping and training a workshop for
the construction of appropriate technology solutions for surrounding
farms. The AIDG will contract this workshop to perform demonstration
installations for regional community and social service organizations.
CEDEPEM
Working with the rural development organization CEDEPEM,
the AIDG has installed 2 of its low cost Axial flux windmills at rural
demonstration centers in the communities of Chichaclan and Rancho De
Teja, outside of Quetzaltenango Guatemala. These windmills performed
well in the prevailing winds and well outproduced the needed peek
demand. For more information on this project check out our projects
page.
Casa Guatemala
Casa Guatemala, near Rio Dulce Guatemala. This biodigester takes pig waste and uses
it to create gas for cooking, while simultaneously reducing point
source pollution and creating a useful fertilizer. This small
demonstration unit is intended for 40 pigs. The AIDG is currently
designing a larger system to handle the entire 250 pigs that are raised
at Casa Guatemala. This second installation will provide enough gas to
run a generator to power the orphanage. For more information on this
project check out our projects page.
